EGG DONATION and Older Females

IEgg donation offers hope for many women who previously thought they had no hope of bearing their own child. In this fast moving age when many women delay motherhood egg donation offers the chance to be able to carry and give birth to a baby. Women may have experienced premature menopause, be carriers of a genetic disorder which they do not wish to pass on to their child, have poor ovarian reserve with few eggs of poor quality or have undergone radio or chemotherapy to treat cancer.

Whether a women conceives naturally or with assisted reproduction her chances of a successful pregnancy diminish with age. However, if the woman uses the eggs from a young fertile donor her chances of a successful pregnancy are the same as the donor’s.

At Delhi-IVF we have an extensive database of beautiful, intelligent North Indian egg donors who are of proven fertility i.e. they have already produced one healthy child of their own. They are thoroughly health checked on a monthly basis. We are able to match a patient with a donor based on nearest possible match in terms of physical appearance, IQ, socio-economic and educational background. If requiring egg donation we request you to send an up to date photograph of yourself in a standing position and details of your height, weight, body- frame size, educational and professional background. When you have decided on a date to commence treatment we then synchronize the menstrual cycle of the donor and recipient so fresh healthy eggs will be available for fertilisation with the male partner’s sperm.

Older Females

A woman is born with about 2,000,000 eggs. By the time she is a teenager that number has diminished to 400,000. From then onwards eggs are lost at the rate of 1000 a month. By the time she is in her 30s or 40s most of the eggs are gone. Then by about 10 years later she has lost all her eggs and passes through the menopause.

At Delhi-IVF we believe that one egg of good quality can lead to a live birth. For this reason we will never turn away a woman wanting to use her own eggs not matter what her age. While we inform the patient realistically of her chances of success.

We do not limit treatment based on chronological age. We realize every woman is different and we tailor treatment on a case by case basis.

We Are willing to take on difficult cases which have been either refused treatment or have had failed cycles at other clinics.

One option is for such women to use donor eggs but many women prefer using their own eggs.

A great deal of interest has arisen around DHEA ( Dehydroepiandrosterone) in fertility treatment.

Because of positive reports from other fertility centres worldwide we will soon start using this with older patients when we feel they will benefit from it.

High FSH (follicle stimulating hormone)

Apart from age, ovarian reserve is the second most important factor for determining a woman’s chance of achieving pregnancy. Ovarian reserve is measured by checking FSH and Oestradiol levels, ultrasound scans, and Anit-Mullerian Hormone (AMH). Women with higher FSH or lower AMH tend to have fewer eggs. At Delhi-IVF we offer IVF to women with low ovarian reserve where the woman is determined to use her own eggs but we explain the realistic possibilities of achieving of achieving a live birth.

Embryo Quality

Embryo quality and embryo selection are one of the most important factors in determining outcome of a treatment cycle. Pregnancy is more likely where there are four or more embryos from which we can select the best for transfer. Embryos that are slow to develop or fragmented are less likely to implant.

SURROGACY

Why Surrogacy?

For many couples surrogacy offers the only chance of having a baby of their own. There are many reasons why this may happen. The main reason is usually medical and can include missing/damaged uterus, heart disease or immunological conditions.

Surrogacy should only be seen as an option of last resort for patients unable to have baby themselves.

We welcome gay couples and single men and women as we believe everyone has the right to have a child as enshrined in International Human Rights Legislation. We never discriminate on the grounds of sexual orientation, race, religion, class, marital status or ethnicity.

Surrogacy is a method of having a baby whereby a woman agrees to carry a baby for a commissioning party unable to carry the baby themselves. SA surrogate mother may be a traditional surrogate who uses her own eggs or a gestational surrogate where the eggs are from another woman. At Delhi-IVF we use only gestational surrogates.

Why Surrogacy in India?

India differs from other countries in that commercial surrogacy (so called rent-a-womb) has been legally allowed since 2002. This means that the surrogate mother is paid compensation for her services. As a consequence of this many more women are available as surrogates. This is in contrast to other countries like the UK and USA where surrogacy can only be carried out for altruistic reasons. This means very few women volunteer and the demand far outweighs the supply. Many couples, with no option but to have a surrogate mother carry their baby are unable to fulfil their dream of having their own child. In India th7ese dreams come true. As well as this, the cost of surrogacy in India relatively low. Indian women and men marry young and have already completed their own families while in the peak of health. Also, Indian women do not have multiple partners. This makes Indian women ideal surrogates and egg donors.

Why Surrogacy at Delhi-IVF?

Delhi-IVF is situated in the heart of New Delhi, walking distance from Connaught Place. International and local transport links to and from Delhi are excellent. There is a wide range of accommodation to suit every budget from five star to back-packers hostels available close to the clinic. As well as this we have our own in-house accommodation just two doors down from the clinic.

We have an excellent database of healthy tested surrogates from the Delhi area which allows us to closely monitor the pregnancy and keep intended parents updated. Our surrogate mothers live in their own homes thereby avoiding additional expenses for the intended parents while at the same time allowing the surrogate to remain surrounded by her own family where help and psychological support is available 24 hours a day.

Unlike other clinics in India especially in Bombay (Mumbai) and other cities, Delhi-IVF has the strictest criteria for recruiting surrogate mothers. Complete health checks are carried out monthly before the surrogate is accepted. As well as this, their backgrounds and identities are thoroughly checked. Background checks include medical history especially in relation to childbearing. The detailed medical history of both parents and both sets of grandparents are evaluated. We interview the husband of the surrogate and meet the children. Where there is any doubt a surrogate will not be taken on.

Every surrogate is completely and fully informed about every step of the surrogacy process and is accepted only if she can prove she understand what is entailed. Once a surrogate has been accepted and is engaged by a commissioning couple she is given a legally binding contract which is fully explained to her. This contract protects the surrogate’s rights and the rights of the commissioning intended parents.

Legal Considerations

The Indian Birth Certificate is issued by the local municipality once the records are received from the local hospital/nursing home. It can take up to two weeks to issue the birth certificate. Every country has its own specific rules for issuing passports and this information is available from your embassy in India or the Home Office in your country. Each country has different laws relating to citizenship for the baby. In some countries at least one parent has to be related biologically to the child. Under Indian legislation the baby requires an exit visa to leave the country. This is issued by the local police commissioner.

We are here to help you every step of the way.
